The holidays are a time to step back, reflect, and acknowledge the fact that there is an aspect of reality that is non-physical. A supernatural force of love exists and sometimes intervenes in our physical world. This holiday revelation is embodied in holistic medicine. According to the holistic philosophy, the individual must be cared for – body, mind, and spirit.

The spirit is the non-physical aspect of every living being. True health care must address the spiritual aspect of life because the spiritual aspect has an effect on the physical. Rigorous modern research proves the power of prayer and distant healing.

Am I suggesting that animals have souls? Do they go to heaven? My opinion is yes and yes! And I am not alone in this belief. Anyone who has ever really connected with a beloved pet has felt this spiritual bond for themselves. (Here’s a way to connect with your pet.)

Those dreamers among us are in good company. Just a couple of weeks ago the pope himself comforted a little boy who’s dog had passed away by telling him, “One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures.” This is quite a significant statement from the pope since it contradicts official Catholic Church doctrine. Sooner or later the truth must be told.

Billy Graham has weighed in on the idea of pets in heaven as well. He has written, “God will provide us with everything we need to be happy in Heaven — and if animals are necessary to make us completely happy there, then you can be confident He will arrange for them to be with us.” That makes sense to me.

In his recent book, Proof of Heaven, neurosurgeon Eben Alexander, M.D. actually documents his trip to heaven. Dr. Alexander had a near death experience when his brain became seriously infected with bacteria. Eben spent a week in a coma and on life support while his brain was literally being eaten away. Although his brain scans showed no activity, he had the experience of visiting spiritual realms. In this place that he came to know as heaven, there were dogs running and playing along with their people. (By the way, I highly recommend his book.)

But, it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize we will meet our beloved pets again after they pass from this physical world.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Have you had any experiences that convinced you that a beloved pet lived on after their demise?

You are right, it is heartbreaking. I find that getting lost in a wonderful memory of a time together and anticipating the reunion helps.

You know, after the loss of my last FIV+ boy at the end of August, I searched for signs, became obsessed with the subject, and ultimately lost my ability to connect with animals as a whole. I lost my five FIV+ boys one after the other. In other words, it was a non-stop crisis that lasted for a few years. At the same time, my puppy mill rescue had undergone surgery for both of her knees, and ended up having back problems to boot. That particular crisis is currently a work in progress

Without them (my FIV+ angels), though, that compassionate part of me is gone. While all of my FIV+ boys were seniors (13-16), I still feel robbed of time with them. My heart is irreparably broken. I lost two of my “soul kitties” exactly one year apart ON August 30th. Seriously? Talk about mind blowing!

I would love… to believe that I will be reunited with them all.

I read all of your posts, and even have a gmail folder for them. Why don’t we have someone like you in my area?

    Merry Christmas!

Many years ago, I had a very petite Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who lived almost 15 years. She had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure a couple of months earlier, and I knew she was not well that day. I had no choice but to leave her mid day for work, and told her that Grandma was coming to take care of her. The day before, I had done a spiritual exercise and asked an animal spirit master to please help her, and I placed her in his arms knowing she would be leaving soon. My mother had come to take care of her while I was at work, and called to tell me she had collapsed while taking her outside to potty. My mother carried her into the house and called me. It was a blessing that I worked close by. However, my wonderful companion had died while I was driving home, and my mother was able to resuccitate her so I would be able to say goodbye. Even though it was horrifically sad, I was so blessed to be there to pet and comfort her while she made her transition, even though it was just a few minutes. For me, my world had ended and I was devastated. We moved her into the bathroom so that we could take her to the pet cemetery the next day. I sat there all night reading stories from my spiritual books out loud, knowing she was still with me in spirit. A few nights later while sleeping, I felt her curled up in my arm, and I was afraid to open my eyes thinking that wonderful feeling would go away. You see, I had asked her to send me a sign that she was okay, and it was then I saw a pinpoint of white light in my inner vision, that exploded to the size of a dinner plate in a split second. It was so brillant it was hard to look at, and was accompanied by the most heavenly music I will ever know. There are no words to truly describe the experience, and nothing like it has ever happened again. A short time later, I woke up in the middle of the night, and a voice said “Call Dr. Robertson” who had been a family vet for years. I did not understand why, but did exactly that the next morning. I heard my self say “do you know of any puppies for adoption?” Someone in the background said “Give her Sandy so and so’s number. I called this lady who had an unexpected litter of six Cocker Spaniels. Needless to say, we got our “Chloe” and she was an absolutely amazing girl that we loved dearly for the next 13 years. She came into our home like she had lived her before. When I took her and her sibling to the pet cemetery, she whined and cried and pulled on her leash. She went straight to the grave of my special girl who had passed. The lady who had the puppies was named Sandy, just like me. Her husband was a pipefitter welder, just like my husband. The puppies were born exactly at the time my mother and I were in a car accident on the way to the pet cemetery. There is no doubt in my mind that they will all be waiting in heaven, and how wonderful is that?
